The Senate president administered the oath of office on two new senators, Lawal Gumau representing Bauchi South and Ahmed Baba-Kaita representing Katsina North on Wednesday.
Gumau won the Bauchi South senatorial election held on August 11 under the platform of ruling All Progressives Congress.
Gumau who was also a former member of the House of Representatives, polled a total of 119,489 votes to defeat his close rival Ladan Salihu of the opposition People’s Democratic Party who polled 50,256 votes.
The new senator will replace a late senator, Ali Wakili, who died on March 17, 2018.
While Babba-Kaita emerged winner of the Katsina North senatorial election by polling s 224,607 votes, against his elder brother and a retired customs officer, Kabir Babba-Kaita of the PDP who had 59,724 votes.
He replaces a late senator, Mustapha Bukar, who died on April 4. (Guardian)
